Hot, Hot, Hot!
Torreviega, Spain

If you are British, moving to Spain when you retire is the equivalent of
Americans moving to Florida. Lots of people do it and it’s easy to understand
why. Prices are cheap, the sun is warm and a huge expat community welcomes you
when you arrive.

Mark has quite a bit of family that has moved South to Spain and since we were
in the neighborhood we wanted to drop in and see everyone! We had a great time
catching up with Will and Linda who were kind enough to let us stay with them
while we were in Torreviega. They treated us like royalty – letting us do
laundry, feeding us all sorts of great  food, and keeping good company during
the days while we were out and about or relaxing by the pool. I especially loved
getting to know their new family member, Max the parrot.  We also saw Mark’s
aunties Elizabeth and Nancy who live over the fence from Will and Linda and
Mark’s cousin Andrew and his fiancée Nicola. It was nice, for me, to put some
names with faces… and for Mark to see all those people again! It had been some
time.

While most of our time in Torreviega was spent relaxing and visiting with
family, we did do some sightseeing. We went into town one day and checked out
the atmosphere. The city was alive with all the city dwellers on their summer
holiday at the beach. The beaches were jam packed with people. This was more
what I expected of a Mediterranean beach. Barely room to breath! Good luck
finding a spot to put down your towel! And it was hot. Hot, hot, hot!! We were
sweltering…  The best part of our visit to Torreviega was a trip through town.
There were a bunch of men sitting outside their apartment building drinking
beers, playing the guitar and singing and all round enjoying the afternoon. I
would have loved to sit there and join them!
