Perfect Day for a Wedding
Seattle, WA -  USA

As you know Heide and I are such high society social butterflies… forever being invited to this palace or that embassy for tea and to give advice. Well it all becomes rather blah, blah after a while. But, just when we were become so very blasé, about our social calendar we were lucky enough to receive an invite to something really important that just couldn’t be missed.

0276:

One of Heide’s old school chums was getting hitched. The wedding of Julie Hamilton, a mate of Heide’s from Middle School and one of the "Blue Moon Posse" (I have no idea what scraps and scrapes this crazed bunch of youths got themselves involved in but they certainly strike me as a formidable bunch… ha, ha, ha!) to Greg Loew. Julie has always struck me as a smashing lass and when we met Greg at Heide and Julie’s 10-year high-school reunion he seemed like a top bloke. Consequently we were really looking forward to the big day. Or big days to be precise, as Julie and Greg were generous enough to allow a pair of vagabonds to attend their rehearsal dinner too.

The rehearsal dinner took place on Friday evening at the rather plush Harbor (shouldn’t that really be "Harbour"?) Club in Seattle. The assembled family and friends enjoyed a Mexican themed evening, with fine cuisine and knock out Margaritas (who schooled that barmaid?) As one may expect the evening was great fun and a wonderful opportunity to meet some of the other guests. After dinner both Julie and Greg gave quick speeches of thanks and presented their parents and wedding party with gifts. Julie was, understandably, a wee bit emotional. And why not? It’s a happy but stressful (kind of) time. Greg, well poor old Greg, he’s a lad isn’t he, thus his mates couldn’t resist the chance to say a few choice words to make the groom to be squirm just a little. Quite right too, nice job lads!

0277:

On Valentines Day the happy couple wed. It was a fabulous service. Greg looked as cool as a cucumber, albeit a rather excited cucumber, well more like a youngster at Christmas really and that is a fine, fine thing. And as for the bride… well, a more radiant image you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere. She bloomed as brightly as the tulip fields of The Netherlands (should I have said Skagit Valley Tulip fields as we’re in the Pacific Northwest?) The efflorescence was almost tangible. I haven’t seen a bride look so happy since I last watched the movie "Muriel’s Wedding." Obviously I last watched this movie after Heide walked down the aisle! It was terrific to see Julie walk down to the altar with her dad at her side. It must be the most amazing / peculiar feeling for a dad. The competing emotions of overwhelming joy with a splash of sadness probably thrown in… although I don’t think that "sadness" is quite the right adjective. Julie looked so utterly assured and delightfully happy.

The ceremony itself was wonderful. There was a rendition of the song "Testify to Love" which Heide and I had played at our wedding and then one of the ragamuffins from the Blue Moon Posse, Jennie Pacquer sang the words to the "Our Father" to the tune of "Ave Maria". Beforehand I couldn’t quite work out it would work, to be honest I still can’t fathom how it worked, but it did, and in all honesty it could have been Dame Kiri Te Kanawa up there singing… it was that good. Anyone from the Met looking for a new star? If so, please contact me. (Jennie, my agents fees are the best in the business.)

0278:

Following a fine closing prayer from the priest, Greg was a particularly happy boy. Yes of course it’s partially because he’d just married the lass of his dreams, but also because he was about to jump behind the wheel of a rather swanky Jaguar (Greg even pronounces it correctly as "Jag-U-ar" not Jag-Waaar". Must be that the spell living in Scotland did him some good!) Thereby fulfilling an ambition of his.

0280:

The reception was fun and gave Heide a chance to catch up with a table full of old friends and all the gossip that bunch of mates can muster. And that’s a lot. We feasted on Salmon (ahh, it’s good to be back in this neck of the woods, it sure beats Egypt for food!) and gorged on good times.

0279:

We had a terrific two days with the new Mr. & Mrs. Loew and wish for them a lifetime of love and boundless happiness; which I’m sure they’ll enjoy.

Good luck to you both and thanks for the invite!
