Home on the Grange Solihull, UK One of the best things about being home for Christmas is having the opportunity to visit with family and friends. Before we left Holland, Mark made plans to meet up for a weekend with our friends Andrew, Emma and Pete. As it turned out, we had a great weekend in store... and a wonderful start to the Christmas season!
To kick off the celebration, Andrew had purchased a bottle of the legendary Penfolds Grange. I say legendary because every chance he gets... Mark will rave about the stuff! Apparently Mark had a glass of this exquisite red wine at a professional wine tasting when working at the Wine Rack in London and nothing has come close ever since. Needless to say, the cost of a bottle prohibits this wine from being a nightly endeavor... in fact, for us, it may well be a once in a lifetime. But oh wow... it is good! One sip leaves the flavor in your mouth for 10 minutes or more. The fullness and taste of the wine is HUGE... and indescribable. We could have sat for hours with just the one glass but...
we had a reservation at TGI Fridays for a late lunch and a few beers! Gotta love the hotwings! The waitress was nice enough to bring us Christmas Crackers... after we explained that it was Pete’s "Birthday"! (Yeah right... and my birthday is really in October!)
A good time was had by all while visiting the Solihull pubs and the morning’s hangovers were all offset by a wonderful bacon sandwich served up by Andrew.
Unfortunately, Mark and I had to head home "relatively" early due to another family engagement on Sunday causing us to leave in the middle of the riveting Mosconni cup on Sky Sports 3. Earl "The Pearl" Strickland representing the United States of America... (who incidentally was a big baby constantly complaining that the unruly Euro fans were, "Calling him Names!!!"....) was playing the snooker legend Steve Davis (representing Europe) in pool. We still have no idea who won... but are sure that we missed an incredibly exciting and moving sporting event never to be repeated in the history of humankind. Oh well.
